Event Recap: PEFTI Arts Festival 2016

The First Edition of the PEFTI Arts Festival, organised by PEFTI Film Institute, was a resonant success.

The week-long fiesta commenced on August 22, with a two-day Film Festival; where over 50 Short Student Films of diverse genres were screened. The entries, based on the “Ecology” theme, told compelling stories and facts on how we can treat our environment better.

On the third day, Mr Forster Ojehonmon, National Secretary of the Association of Movie Producers (A.M.P.), gave an enlightening lecture titled “Accessing Film Funds, Locally and Internationally” to over 1,200 new and aspiring filmmakers.

On Friday August 26, the popular Obaseki play, IDIA, was staged by students of PEFTI Institute; and met with resounding applause from an audience of over 1,500 who were delightfully thrilled by the energetic performances of the award-winning story.

The festival ended on a high note with an eclectic Music Concert on Saturday August 27, which had the PEFTI Band treating guests to professional renditions of oldies, afro-beat, reggae, contemporary pop, and highlife music. Awards were presented to several deserving individuals.

The Managing Director of PEFTI, Abiola Adenuga, had this to say: “We appreciate the thousands of people who came from across the country to witness the first edition of PEFTI Arts Festival. Our students, lecturers and non-academic staff really put in a lot of effort, and we are pleased that the results were more than rewarding. For over 10 years, we have trained several thousands of musicians, film-makers, dancers, on-air personalities, actors, and other arts-enthusiasts; this festival is just a glimpse into the remarkable talents we are currently developing.

Preparations are already ongoing for the 2017 Edition of the PEFTI Arts Festival.”
